About the Author

Syd Hoff was born and raised in New York City. He studied at the National Academy of Design and sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker when he was eighteen. He eventually became one of the most original and beloved authors and illustrators of children's books. Mr. Hoff wrote more than fifty books for children, including the I Can Read titles Danny and the Dinosaur, Oliver, and Sammy the Seal.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2?Hoff continues the story from where he left it 37 years ago. Danny returns to the museum to invite his dinosaur friend to his sixth birthday party. As in the original book, the dinosaur does things with his own unique twist, providing the humor beginning readers will enjoy. Though the illustrations are now fully colored, the characters and their expressions leave no doubt that these are the same friends from the past?with a bright future and deserving a spot on beginning-reader shelves.?Gale W. From Booklist

Gr. 1^-3. Children who know this duo from picture-book appearances will have fun reading this new adventure themselves. Danny invites his friend the dinosaur to his birthday party, an act that inspires some comedy but in the end turns out just fine. Extra leading makes the large type stand out even more than usual; the story is simple and sweet; and the use of dialogue will give new readers practice in coping with quotation marks. The cartoonlike simplicity of Hoff's artwork should have great appeal. Stephanie Zvirin --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
